Time Management Tips

Here are some tips to help you manage your time and successfully complete a long-term research project like the IB Extended Essay:

1. Break the Project into Smaller Steps
Each step of the process has been chunked for you, but it's recommended to spend time reading the timeline so you can further personalize and divide the work into manageable subtasks such as research, outlining, drafting, revising, and finalizing. Follow deadlines for each task to avoid last-minute stress.

2. Create a Personal Timeline
Use a planner or digital calendar to map out your deadlines. Include milestones for reflection sessions or meetings with your supervisor if applicable. Sync the Managebac and DX calendars with your personal calendar so everything is in one place.

3. Set Regular Work Sessions
Establish a routine by dedicating specific times each week to work on the EE. Consistency helps you make steady progress. Make use of the time given to you during Advisory classes.

4. Prioritize Tasks
Identify the most important and time-sensitive tasks. Focus on those first, rather than trying to do everything at once.

5. Use Tools for Organization
Apps/Tools: Use tools like MS365 Calendar, Notion, or Trello to track tasks and deadlines.
Notes: Keep all research materials, ideas, and notes organized in a labeled folder in OneDrive. Share this folder with your supervisor.

Citations: Create citations in NoodleTools or MyBib as you find helpful sources. This will save loads of time during the writing stage.

6. Avoid Procrastination
Start with smaller, less intimidating tasks if you're feeling stuck. Progress, even small, can build momentum.

7. Limit Distractions
Find a quiet, organized workspace and minimize distractions like social media. Apps like Focus@Will or Pomodoro timers can help.

8. Regularly Review Progress
Set aside time to review what you’ve accomplished and adjust your plan as needed.

9. Seek Support
Communicate with your supervisor, teacher, or Advisor when you need guidance. Peer study groups can also provide accountability and motivation.

10. Take Breaks and Care for Yourself
Balance work with rest to avoid burnout. Regular breaks can help you stay focused and productive over time.
